Hunan releases tourism data for the first half of 2023

Recently, the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism released the economic performance of the cultural and tourism market in the province for the period from January to June. In the first half of this year, the cultural and tourism market in the entire province experienced a strong recovery.

The 416 monitored tourist attractions received a total of 182 million visitors, representing a year-on-year increase of 116.86%. The total revenue reached 21.455 billion yuan, showing a year-on-year growth of 135.01%. Among them, the 11 5A-level scenic areas received a total of 46.1543 million tourists, a year-on-year rise of 211.79%. The 142 4A-level scenic areas received a total of 64.3439 million tourists, a year-on-year growth of 111.82%. The 259 3A-level and below scenic areas received a total of 71.1639 million tourists, indicating a year-on-year increase of 84.41%.

The accommodation sector saw steady growth in reception volume. Among the 557 monitored lodging enterprises, a total of 9.2586 million rooms were rented out from January to June, accommodating 12.6277 million guests. The occupancy rate of lodging units was 73.32%. Specifically, 19 five-star hotels, 52 four-star hotels and 139 three-star and below hotels rented out a total of 0.8086, 1.5788 and 2.2697 million rooms respectively, with an average occupancy rate of 63.94%, 71.52% and 78.36%. 

Cultural venues were popular among people. The cultural services provided by 188 museums, libraries, and cultural centers benefited 48.9493 million people. 

29 performance venues conducted 2,523 performances, representing a year-on-year increase of 116.75%. They received a total of 1.9032 million audience members, showing a year-on-year growth of 336.78%. The total revenue amounted to 122 million yuan, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 253.58%. 69 performing groups presented 6,365 performances, with a year-on-year growth of 72.87%. They received 6.1755 million audience members, indicating a year-on-year increase of 215.48%. The total revenue amounted to 131 million yuan, showing a year-on-year increase of 186.51%.

The reception volume of tourists by the monitored travel agencies was impressive. The 108 travel agencies received 1.4913 million domestic tourists from January to June, representing a year-on-year increase of 664.09%. They also received 38,100 inbound tourists, showing a year-on-year growth of 5,155.03%. Furthermore, these agencies organized outbound trips for 52,400 people, indicating a year-on-year increase of 4,737.77%.
